Privacy and cookies

Creating routes on Runcima requires a free account: your email and routes are stored on our server so you have them on all your devices. Routes shared by link can be viewed without an account.

Data controller

Runcima is a personal, non-profit project by Lucas Alonso Rey. For any privacy question you can write to track@runcima.com.

What is stored in your browser

For the app to work, Runcima stores in your browser's local storage (localStorage) the current route, the routes you save in My routes, the last map position, the map and terrain you chose, the language if you switch it, the start you choose for loops, and your cookie choice. This data never leaves your device (except My routes if you have an account, as explained below) and you can delete it from your browser settings. As it is needed for the service you request, it does not require consent.

If you create an account

The account is needed to create, save and export routes, and lets you have them on all your devices. When you sign up we send you an email with a link to confirm the address is yours; if you don't confirm it within 30 days, the account is deleted. If you create one, we store on Runcima's server your email, your encrypted password (never the password itself), your language, the sign-up date and the routes you save in My routes (points, name, terrain, distance and edit date). Routes you delete are kept only as an empty marker, so the deletion reaches your other devices. To stop unauthorised access attempts, login attempts are counted for a short time, linked to an encrypted fingerprint of the email and IP address.

We use this data only to provide the service you request (legal basis: performance of the service, art. 6.1.b GDPR) and to send you the password reset email when you ask for it. It is not shared with anyone or used for advertising. It is kept while you have the account: you can delete it at any time from My routes → Delete account, and it is erased immediately together with all its routes.

While you are logged in, your browser keeps the technical cookie runcima_s, which identifies you to the server. It lasts one year from its last use, is used for nothing else and does not require consent.

External services

To draw the map and analyse the route, your browser connects directly to these services. As with any internet connection, they receive your IP address and the coordinates they need to respond:

ServicePurpose
Stadia Maps, CARTO, OpenStreetMap, OpenTopoMap, Esri, IGN SpainMap images
Valhalla and OSRM (openstreetmap.de)Routing, altitude, road type and surface
Open-MeteoWeather forecast and altitude (if Valhalla does not respond)
Photon (Komoot)Place search
Overpass APIWater and services near the route (only if you ask)
Cloudflare (cdnjs)Map library

Your location is only used if you give the browser permission, to centre the map, and it is not sent to Runcima.

Analytics cookies

With your consent we use Google Analytics 4 to find out how many people use Runcima and which features they use (for example, how many routes are exported), so we can decide what to improve. It sets the _ga and _ga_* cookies, which last up to 2 years. Google Ireland Ltd. processes this data and may transfer it to the United States under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

If you don't accept, Google Analytics is not loaded. You can change your choice at any time with the Cookies link at the bottom of the planner panel. If you withdraw consent, the analytics cookies are deleted.

Your rights

You can exercise your rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction and portability by writing to track@runcima.com, and lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (aepd.es).
